<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">First let me warn you that this is a long post and there are a lot of photos and links!!!</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: x-small;"><b>UPDATE AT END OF POST!!!</b></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: x-small;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0249/6132/products/NantucketKit28x40CollageWeb_grande.jpg?v=1404679860" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: x-small;"></span></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">I've recently been inspired by the huge stitched throws and blankets I've seen. I saw the first one on Pinterest and that sparked my interest. Those were knitted using a fiber from <a href="http://loopymango.com/" target="_blank">Loopy Mango</a> called <a href="http://loopymango.com/collections/frontpage/products/big-loop-yarn-merino" target="_blank">Big Loop Merino</a>. (photo above) </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">To knit a nice size throw you'd need a minimum of 2 of those skeins and they are $198.00 per skein!!! Then there is the matter of the huge knitting needles needed to knit with that super bulky yarn and finding a nice pattern! So, for the next few days I scoured the web trying to get as much information as I could and to see if I could use regular bulky yarn.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">There are a few videos on YouTube showing ladies knitting them and there are a few patterns on Ravelry. There's a couple of ladies selling the throws custom-made on Etsy and they are going for upwards of $500.00 Which sounds about right after the cost of the fiber and then the time spent knitting one. Here's some info I found...</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">THE FIBER:</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">I found <a href="https://www.etsy.com/listing/192176204/super-bulky-yarn-giant-chunky-hand-spun?ref=sr_gallery_2&ga_search_query=giant+yarn&ga_search_type=all&ga_view_type=gallery" target="_blank">this roving yarn</a> on Etsy for $39.00 a skein. However, you would need 6 or more skeins. Also, I didn't think I'd like using the roving (un-spun wool) to knit with as the throw would shed! Not something you want in a throw you want to cuddle up on the couch in. I don't think that the Big Loop Merino would shed as much but there again, very pricey. There are a few other shops on Etsy selling this type of fiber, just search for big stitch yarns.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">My choice was to use Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick and Quick. <a href="http://ravel.me/conicuts/ee53h" target="_blank">My first try</a> using size 50 circulars was ok, but just not as chunky as I wanted. I'm working on <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/projects/conicuts/big-chunky-cable-knit-blanket" target="_blank">my second throw</a> now and am using 3 strands of Loops and Threads Charisma. I'm also in the process of using Caron One Pound yarn holding 3 strands together and chaining with a size Q hook to make my chunky yarn for my 3rd attempt at a big stitch throw. This is what the pattern designer suggested and so that is what I'm doing. That pattern is called "<a href="https://www.etsy.com/listing/160737503/the-lost-in-you-chunky-knit-blanket?ref=shop_home_active_4" target="_blank">Lost in You</a>". It's a lot of work but I hope the result will be worth it.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">THE HUGE KNITTING NEEDLES:</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">So, I decided to purchase a pair of <a href="http://www.ebay.com/itm/330785358854?_trksid=p2060778.m1438.l2649&var=540083003072&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT" target="_blank">size 50 circulars</a> and hold 2 or 3 strands of regular bulky yarn together and see what I thought. Although is wasn't hard using the circulars it was a bit aggravating pushing the stitches back up onto the needle tips from the cord. The stitches would close up a bit on the cord and I'd have to really push and tug to get them back on the wooden needle tips.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">So, for my 2nd throw I would need straight size 50 knitting needles. <span style="background-color: white;">I purchased 2 1” diameter dowels that were 36” in length at Michaels. I purchased 2 little wooden “clay look” pots for the ends. My husband cut both dowels 24” long which left me with 2 12” pieces. He used his electric sander and sanded the long pieces into points on one end and sanded both ends of the 2 12” pieces. The shorter ones I planned to use as my cable needle. I found that just using my fingers was much easier.</span></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhOvO_n54UaiEij_BvaYy2eH7Nyvl7jTaC38EwR3wTQcc12seWHQxRoNFb7prDJNX_ILjq4QbzzQdxamdbLIwV3R4Ve2BVKkcU4W0dGMbKElVPslt523kiBWD3S6ZMyqc8L72LAmPCX8GM/s1600/10632602_10152351385707831_4294167240466805921_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhOvO_n54UaiEij_BvaYy2eH7Nyvl7jTaC38EwR3wTQcc12seWHQxRoNFb7prDJNX_ILjq4QbzzQdxamdbLIwV3R4Ve2BVKkcU4W0dGMbKElVPslt523kiBWD3S6ZMyqc8L72LAmPCX8GM/s1600/10632602_10152351385707831_4294167240466805921_n.jpg" height="200" width="200" /></a></span></div>
<br />
<div style="background-color: white; margin-bottom: 1em !important; padding: 0px;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; margin-bottom: 1em !important; padding: 0px;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">He attached the little wooden pots to the ends of the 2 longer pieces with screws and “voila” my long size 50 knitting needles were born! I painted the ends and put a coat of clear glaze on to dress them up a bit. Not bad for about $6 for the set + 2 cable needles to boot. So, I saved $48.00! </span><span style="background-color: transparent;">These were the </span><a href="https://www.etsy.com/listing/168241549/handmade-cherry-wood-jumbo-knitting?ref=sr_gallery_12&ga_search_query=size+50+knitting+needles&ga_ref=auto2&ga_explicit_scope=1&ga_search_type=all&ga_view_type=gallery" style="background-color: transparent;" target="_blank">ones</a><span style="background-color: transparent;"> I found on Etsy. </span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; margin-bottom: 1em !important; padding: 0px;">
This is my result in progress using these size 50's. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
For the "Lost in Love" I'm going to need larger needles. The pattern suggested <a href="http://shop.gogirlknitting.com/Go-Girl-GIANT-Knitting-Needles-US-120-GIANTS.htm" target="_blank">these</a>. But $92.00! Nah, I think I can make my own. A lady on YouTube had made <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uM6F98pW0Eg" target="_blank">her own</a>, so off I sent my hubby to purchase 1.5" PVC pipe. Here's <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5voV033GJXY" target="_blank">another lady</a> knitting with huge PVC pipe.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

MY PVC PIPE KNITTING NEEDLES:</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Now I used 1.5" PVC pipe. However, the outside diameter is really about 1.75". I'm going to see if they work with my pattern and if not I'll just make me a set using 1 1/4" PVC pipe which should be about 1.5" diameter on the outside. Honestly, I think these will be fine. I just wanted you to be aware of the size if you decide to make your own. </div>

<br />
I used a Wisk detergent cap for the ends. So my yarn won't slide off. These fit perfectly. <br />

Now, cut about 3/4" of an inch below that all the way through. I then cut little sections vertical about every 1/2" around and then chiseled that out to look like this.<br />

Both are the same it's just I already had a green one and it's going to be covered up anyway. So, just get whatever color they have.<br />

Next I just carefully sliced away a bit more of the top to be more pointed.<br />

Then I slid that end into my PVC pipe. I felt like that gave it more stability and strength than just taping the top only on the ends.<br />

<br />
<br />
Next I used painter's tape and taped around and around.<br />
<br />
<br /></div>
<div>
It's feeling very sturdy now! Then I used some white electrical tape which is very stretchy. I wrapped it around and around until I got to the tip.<br />

<div style="text-align: left;">
At the tip I used one piece and cut little snips in it so it would lay smoother. After that I used short little pieces to make it a little more smooth. You can see the difference after the shorter pieces are added here. </div>
<br />

<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Then I just wrapped one more time with the electrical tape from the top back down to the bottom.</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Here they are in comparison to the smaller size 50 ones I had made using the 1" dowels. I hope I've given you inspiration to make your own huge knitting needles and delve into HUGE knitting. It's really a lot of fun and the result is awesome!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Oh and some have asked if it hurts to knit with these huge needles. Not so much. The hardest part is turning the throw for the next row as the throw gets heavier each row. I sit on the couch to knit and the weight of the knitting is resting on the couch. I'm just moving and working with the ends. Now for these bigger ones I may have to move to a chair with the ends resting on the floor. I'll have to get back to you on that. LOL</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Happy HUGE knitting!</div>
<div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>UPDATE!</b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
So, I am almost ready to start my next BIG stitch throw and I knew that I needed to make another set of PVC pipe knitting needles in the size the pattern calls for. My husband picked up the right size pipe which is 1 1/4" pipe if you want 1 1/2" diameter needles. This pipe has the diameter printed on the outside of the pipe (photo below) but just remember that measurement refers to the inside diameter.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhd7Rpcqqd-UBA5OUmqxFMIu4c9apdLOZeHvmzRK0Z3wzfJwlw4S7kj2xOUOMrP4VVvEfDUQHhO1vvvtsPhnsDQAbjwDYr_5SefbNI1HnO-n-fIiblEVInNvk1EHcya7If4hC1AbxutN6U/s1600/image.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhd7Rpcqqd-UBA5OUmqxFMIu4c9apdLOZeHvmzRK0Z3wzfJwlw4S7kj2xOUOMrP4VVvEfDUQHhO1vvvtsPhnsDQAbjwDYr_5SefbNI1HnO-n-fIiblEVInNvk1EHcya7If4hC1AbxutN6U/s1600/image.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
For these PVC pipe knitting needles I made the tips the exact same way as the larger ones except for the measurement. I measured around the outside diameter of my pipe which was 5 3/8". I then measured down my styrofoam cone where it was the same diameter. I cut into it just the depth of my serrated knife all around. NOT all the way through. Then I cut all the way through an inch below that. Then just follow the same directions above on how I finished those tips.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
However, I did have to made the ends a bit different as the detergent bottle caps for these were too large. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
What I did was use the very bottom part of my styrofoam cones. I cut off about an inch and then carefully cut out the center with a serrated knife. I kept checking to be sure it would slide on easily. Be sure not to make your hole too large. You don't want them to slide around too easily. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh6pf22Gk6ClPbwrGB8Rj68vc6Pi2i5IxvKdSPsZ5lBHPOuV2LXeXEW6HBGM2eQATAeLMzHs029a8zjwuEqTl_97TKImOt_Eh7tjWgLfDVYFqCFa_G3WaJLTC-C3Gorf3x3uUxhCwLKGLU/s1600/image.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh6pf22Gk6ClPbwrGB8Rj68vc6Pi2i5IxvKdSPsZ5lBHPOuV2LXeXEW6HBGM2eQATAeLMzHs029a8zjwuEqTl_97TKImOt_Eh7tjWgLfDVYFqCFa_G3WaJLTC-C3Gorf3x3uUxhCwLKGLU/s1600/image.jpg" height="200" width="200" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Next, I cut strips of the blue painters tape and wrapped in and out of the hole to completely cover that doughnut shape piece of styrofoam. Then I did the same thing with the white electrical tape. I then slid it on carefully, pushing it on just a tad to make it fit. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8kFbRTlvy8MeEIt55lpGvpsv1vFEerrShPX8FcEidnEPlGMaUVWgCFcbHBnyD5eMQed-7cL1wDFAU3dxd_5gZhPmFgRwyGb4IQ-Mrj6T3PCbWhyphenhyphenraNn4CZzArTxLUIaiDTJpL8ab_Vmc/s1600/image.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8kFbRTlvy8MeEIt55lpGvpsv1vFEerrShPX8FcEidnEPlGMaUVWgCFcbHBnyD5eMQed-7cL1wDFAU3dxd_5gZhPmFgRwyGb4IQ-Mrj6T3PCbWhyphenhyphenraNn4CZzArTxLUIaiDTJpL8ab_Vmc/s1600/image.jpg" height="200" width="200" /></a></div>
<br />
Because it's styrofoam it will give a little. After I slid it on I then pushed on the end cap for the pipe. These are also sold at the hardware store and only cost less than a couple of dollars each. The styrofoam doughnut piece stays put without any other taping or gluing. Just the right size to keep my stitches from sliding off! That's it! Pretty easy huh?<br />

<span style="color: #20124d;">I recently completed this cardigan called <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/spring-showers-3" target="_blank">Spring Showers</a>.</span><br />
<span style="color: #20124d;">I was very pleased with this cardigan. I was used Interlacements Rick Rack in the Irish Heather colorway. The skein has 1200 yards, but I was still afraid I would run out. I did have yarn left over so I could
have knit the sleeves a bit longer. However, I’d rather have some left
over than to have run out. The pattern was well written and a breeze to knit. I made the 42/44 size and it fit perfectly and is so comfortable to wear. I didn't find it necessary to block it and just wore it as soon as it came off the needles! I definitely want to knit another one for myself and make the sleeves elbow length.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="color: #20124d;">
</span><span style="color: #20124d;">MY MODS: <br />1: Knit only 6 W&T rows in each wedge section. This
gave me less fullness and dropped them a little lower down from the
bust. <br />2: Used the <a href="http://m.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLYO4_KGLuZybfJdLXiWKtRGit5R6D1ZgP#/watch?v=KooKdm0YBbw&feature=plpp">German Short Row</a> method. LOVE this method and will use it from now on. <br />3: Picked up sleeve stitches with smaller needle <br />4: Knit only 8 rows on sleeve in the round after sleeve short rows. Then knit edging of sleeve as written. <br />5: Knit only 15 edging rows. I thought this made edging wide enough.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="color: #20124d;">
</span><span style="color: #20124d;"><em>CHANGES if I knitted this again. I’d add 10-15 extra CO stitches
to give a little more length. This would drop where the wedge sections
start and drop them down further from the bust line. I would also knit
the sleeves longer.</em></span><br />
<br />
<span style="color: #20124d;">
Using my Stitch Minder app on my iPhone made it easy to keep track of
short rows while also simultaneously keeping track of full rows.</span></div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
I had been wanting to knit one of these cute little skirts for a while. I finally got around to it and it turned out so adorable. Now, if I just knew a little girl that could model it for me! This is a great way to use up some of that ruffle yarn stash that you have. You can see all of my details at the link below.</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
I just finished this gorgeous shawl! </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The pattern is called <a href="http://carolinecreations.wordpress.com/2010/04/25/guinevere-shawl/" target="_blank">Guinevere</a> and it turned out even more beautiful than I had imagined. I used Blue Heron Rayon Metallic in the Marshgrass colorway. I was hoping to have enough for 60" in length but only got about 50" in length. This is really plenty and it wraps perfectly around my shoulders. I had planned to seam it like a poncho but decided to keep it as is so I can wear it as a wrap or scarf and I can also use a shawl pin when I want it to stay put. It's 19" wide. My Ravelry notes can be found <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/projects/conicuts/guinevere-shawl" target="_blank">here</a>. </div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I purchased pre-made flowers to use on the ends from "<a href="https://www.etsy.com/shop/CardInspired" target="_blank">Card Inspired</a>" on etsy. I had crocheted eight myself on each end, but that took so long and so I decided to purchase some pre-made and they were perfect. Especially when I used the "<a href="http://www.ravelry.com/yarns/library/crystal-palace-yarns-little-flowers" target="_blank">Little Flowers</a>" yarn to attach them.</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #0c343d;"><i><span style="font-size: small;"> I decided in the fall of 2012 to complete all of my WIP's and I did it! However, a few weeks ago I stumbled across one more WIP that I had missed. This throw called <a href="http://ravel.me/conicuts/hq33b" target="_blank">"Entrelac Throw"</a>. So, I had to put aside what I was knitting on and finish this project up instead. </span></i></span></div>

When I first pulled it out and started knitting on it again I was amazed at how easy the project seemed 6 years later! I am still amazed at how much easier certain knitting projects seem after you get a few years of knitting under your belt.</span></i></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #0c343d;"><i><span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span></i></span></div>

<div style="text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #0c343d;"><i><span style="font-size: small;">This was a little smaller in size than I had expected it to be, but I was happy when it finally came to that last square. It's definitely just a lap throw, but oh so pretty. Now a days I don't choose projects that aren't reversible and although the back of this isn't that bad, I do prefer the backside to look just as good as the front. My pickup skills improved over the years, so part of the back is to me a bit on the "ugh" side but it does show that my knitting has much improved. </span></i></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #0c343d;"><i><span style="font-size: small;">That said, if you look closely you'll see a mistake. I did notice it straight away and would have only had to rip back one square, but decided to continue on and call it a design adjustment.</span></i></span></div>

You can even use an exacto knife to cut a slit. Use ribbon, yarn or twine to tie the wrapper on and tie in a knot or bow on the back.</span></i></span><br />

<span style="color: #0c343d;"> I love knitting and crocheting dishcloths! They make great gifts and are quick and easy to make. I'm always looking for new and different patterns for dishcloths and I especially love those that are not only unique but easy to make as well.</span></div>

<div style="text-align: center;">

<span style="color: #0c343d;"><i>I've had many people ask me if my <a href="http://www.craftsy.com/user/726922/pattern-store" target="_blank">scarf patterns</a> work with the Knifty Knitter boards and the answer is no. Why? Well the gauge is way too large and you can't get a tight enough stitch. You really need to use a regular gauge knitting board and there are many places that you can find them online. I prefer to use the scarf regular gauge boards as my patterns only use 7 pegs. They are sold using pegs or pins, my preference is pegs.<br />I suggest either the <a href="http://www.cindwoodcrafts.com/products-page/looms/shape/panel-looms/mini-scarf-loom/" target="_blank">Mini Scarf loom</a> or the <a href="http://www.cindwoodcrafts.com/products-page/looms/shape/panel-looms/scarf-loom/" target="_blank">Scarf loom</a> at CinDWood Crafts <a href="http://www.cindwoodcrafts.com/products-page/looms/shape/panel-looms/" target="_blank">here</a>...<br />Be sure to ask for either with 5/8 inch spacing.<br /><br />Another option is the Martha Stewart loom kit which you can find at your local Michaels Arts and Crafts, Hobby Lobby, AC Moore and JoAnn Fabrics. You can use a coupon as well which makes this kit affordable. Then set the pieces up as knitting board and use the pink pegs in every other hole. You can find a preview video <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GisJh98Z56k" target="_blank">here</a>.</i></span><br />

<div style="text-align: center;">
I have another WIP that I have marked off of my to do list to share with you today! I had made one of these little sweaters back in April of 2011 (<a href="http://www.ravelry.com/projects/conicuts/short-rows-baby-jacket" target="_blank">Cutie Tootie</a>) and a month after </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
started this one. (<a href="http://www.ravelry.com/projects/conicuts/short-rows-baby-jacket-2" target="_blank">Cuddle Muffin</a>) </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I had seen the pattern <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/lilleput" target="_blank">Lillieput</a> and loved it, but at the time didn't want to spend $7.00 for that pattern for just one size. So, I opted for the free pattern, <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/short-rows-baby-jacket" target="_blank">Short Rows Baby Jacket</a>. This pattern worked fine, but does have it's flaws. I think the neck comes out way to large and the sleeves too narrow. Instead of picking up stitches around the neck, I crocheted 2 rows of sc. I also added crochet loops for button holes. I think this could be used for a boy, but seems better suited for a girl. To me this pattern looks more girly anyway.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I may end up purchasing the other pattern anyway as I do love it. I still need to sew my patch on the first one, but have decided not to sew a patch to this one. My Ravelry notes are linked above. Thanks for taking time to look!</div>

I had my VSG this past March 2012 and have lost over 100 lbs. since June of 2011. So I figured it was time to finish this so I could at least wear it for a while.</i></span></span></div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
Ever since knitting my first pair of <a href="http://ravel.me/conicuts/4c1tu" target="_blank">Fiber Trends felted clogs</a> I have loved wool slippers!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Why? Well, you can slip them on with bare feet, they keep your feet toasty warm and your feet DO NOT sweat in them! LOVE, LOVE!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEglN_4fbVb8PlX7brII6zmzAyYEQAFYd3CZJsg2Hz0HxWYFM1McBdp-ZWFSerH8HdzChRqGhHoQPbhVwD5lZ3FPKnXNTBvfCSNn6CEUB9ddiCAhgSeV76MA8fkHUz-Ja2TUmdMio2_tYq8/s1600/IMG_20120626_131221-1_medium2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="261" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEglN_4fbVb8PlX7brII6zmzAyYEQAFYd3CZJsg2Hz0HxWYFM1McBdp-ZWFSerH8HdzChRqGhHoQPbhVwD5lZ3FPKnXNTBvfCSNn6CEUB9ddiCAhgSeV76MA8fkHUz-Ja2TUmdMio2_tYq8/s320/IMG_20120626_131221-1_medium2.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhf4suUeKEXR0fGRLp2Ujnm33rs4yUPCkri1j5qClIn6LUqzlQLbuQnOQc41I7p1PEwCobuxaNMwA6rX6dzVSlJzYAaGRpzpSc5_T82s2dM8M8OH_Iv8sfmgOKPAQg5KUdJkMN8GM5vUoI/s1600/btslick_medium.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhf4suUeKEXR0fGRLp2Ujnm33rs4yUPCkri1j5qClIn6LUqzlQLbuQnOQc41I7p1PEwCobuxaNMwA6rX6dzVSlJzYAaGRpzpSc5_T82s2dM8M8OH_Iv8sfmgOKPAQg5KUdJkMN8GM5vUoI/s320/btslick_medium.JPG" width="189" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I literally wear holes in the heels of every pair I have knit for myself. However, I think I have that problem solved! This last pair I knit for myself using the pattern "<a href="http://www.kriskrafter.com/feclmaea.html" target="_blank">Felted Clogs made Easy</a>" I painted the bottoms with Tulip Slick paint. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This not only makes the bottoms non-slip it gives them extra durability. I used a foam brush and painted on 2 coats, letting the first dry before applying the second coat.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This works much better than the Plasti-Dip product I have used in the past. The Plasti-Dip smells horrible and it seeps through to the inside of your slipper. The Tulip Slick paint has no smell and stays put on the bottom and doesn't seep through to the inside!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiNESFNPBl0X8zwaEDfB2LE0hzJVL32ycR5RUWJinoAELUtDIdof7XMh0J6rrElACFxSGPYipJrlNBGTn1P3GY-ALarprHvE-0_MKdGmkK6Cu81aECLx3sb9ngWnm9giidgzXerCSarYRE/s1600/IMG_20120712_073259-1_medium2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="261" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiNESFNPBl0X8zwaEDfB2LE0hzJVL32ycR5RUWJinoAELUtDIdof7XMh0J6rrElACFxSGPYipJrlNBGTn1P3GY-ALarprHvE-0_MKdGmkK6Cu81aECLx3sb9ngWnm9giidgzXerCSarYRE/s320/IMG_20120712_073259-1_medium2.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
I just squirted out an outline of where I wanted the paint to be and then kept squirting it out and filling in the outlined area.<br />
<br />
Next I used a cheap throw away foam brush to spread it out. I found it worked best pulling from the outline into the center area. It dries pretty fast and will have a shiny look even when dry.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtrwCFwy3Ts3TSRZ9Pvb0UWwfZyR88kUNfuL7Q5vl89flR6AUCy_hyphenhyphenUcMHNQWe9LqL3hWmJMLmz-rjXCp6Juks6Hozy2YAO9W-ORx6lYVVElSRwhzRxn6D5nqAVkBn0TgmjtmqICzCecg/s1600/IMG_20120712_073716-2_medium2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="210" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtrwCFwy3Ts3TSRZ9Pvb0UWwfZyR88kUNfuL7Q5vl89flR6AUCy_hyphenhyphenUcMHNQWe9LqL3hWmJMLmz-rjXCp6Juks6Hozy2YAO9W-ORx6lYVVElSRwhzRxn6D5nqAVkBn0TgmjtmqICzCecg/s320/IMG_20120712_073716-2_medium2.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I wear mine every day and absolutely love them!<br />
<br />
I also love <a href="http://www.kriskrafter.com/feclmaea.html" target="_blank">this pattern</a>! It is by far the fastest and easiest knitted slipper and I'll be making many more of these using this pattern! You knit the tops, seam the heel and knit the soles separately. Then you seam the tops to the bottoms. Don't let this seaming discourage you from trying this pattern. Believe me it's super simple and fast!<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEia5maOgfkiiEhQSVLlnsLa1tAXH0YVvZp_4D0ww9410zQcwej-7b-kly74NEhlh-ufGqhTxoCiGPNIEBABTC9Jhb72WWegDFz3tYOxbImSitVLZlO1Y7P0vBvwEFHPoAwEgqxm67DgC_c/s1600/birdofparadise2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="298" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEia5maOgfkiiEhQSVLlnsLa1tAXH0YVvZp_4D0ww9410zQcwej-7b-kly74NEhlh-ufGqhTxoCiGPNIEBABTC9Jhb72WWegDFz3tYOxbImSitVLZlO1Y7P0vBvwEFHPoAwEgqxm67DgC_c/s320/birdofparadise2.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
I also knit this pair as a gift to my gynecologist "Dr. Sal". Long story but she is the best ever and I just love her. I've been through a lot with her this past year and she always makes me feel like I am her only patient. She was so thrilled with the slippers and they fit her perfectly!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTBrLf7B4ptofORA0G2xCy5xF0bBZ-YZMGy74z0YfRLy4ovE_F2fVrSfQrRADZMYwHbFfeVncPZzSKoSDWRrxnrcv1-ixwVTMoHy3WTwp0x4o2BlEFqamIerH9lwlq7kM0pv1Ve_p5mT0/s1600/bird_of_paradise5.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTBrLf7B4ptofORA0G2xCy5xF0bBZ-YZMGy74z0YfRLy4ovE_F2fVrSfQrRADZMYwHbFfeVncPZzSKoSDWRrxnrcv1-ixwVTMoHy3WTwp0x4o2BlEFqamIerH9lwlq7kM0pv1Ve_p5mT0/s320/bird_of_paradise5.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
I placed them sole to sole and wrapped a belly band around them with a cute scalloped sentiment on the front. I think it added just the right touch. <br />

<span style="font-family: Helvetica;">I've had several people to ask me where I bought the end peg pieces that I used to knit my ruffled scarves. Here is some more information about that and what you can do to use pegs and knit these scarves like I do.</span></div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica;">First I watched Iselas <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n8PCnCIXL8E">video here</a>. She uses the Knifty Knitter brand of knitting board in that video and you can find those at Michaels Craft stores or other craft stores. She is using the purple one and I can’t remember if it’s sold alone or in a set. That would be the easiest and cheapest way to go.</span></div>
<div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica;">Now the way I make them is by using the end pegs from my adjustable loom. My post with photo and instructions is <a href="http://knitknotpurlcurl.blogspot.com/2011/12/how-to-knit-ruffled-scarf-using-pegs.html">here</a>. </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Helvetica;">I no longer refer anyone to <strike>dalooms dot com</strike>!!! My last order with them 5 months ago has never come nor have I ever received any communication from them as to why.</span></div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica;"><strike>Now what may be a good idea for you, is to get (2) of their </strike><a href="http://www.dalooms.com/product_p/kps.htm"><strike>Keepsake Looms</strike></a><strike>. These should work just fine for making these scarves the way I do. You’ll only be using about 7 of those pegs anyway and it doesn’t matter what gauge or size they are. I think this is the way to go.</strike> </span></div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica;">The only other thing you could do is to go and buy one of the Knifty Knitter brand knitting boards (the smallest one you can find) and have your husband to saw it in half to give you 2 separate sides. They cut pretty easily and you can sand the edges smooth.</span></div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica;">Hope that helps! </span></div>

</div><div style="text-align: center;">I'm going to try and explain how I knit my ruffled scarves using the end pieces from my adjustable knitting board and the new ruffle type yarns which look like ribbon </div><div style="text-align: center;">until you stretch them out to reveal a netted type yarn that is about 2 to 3 inches wide.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhlodZdKozTXNbXpoH41p4d2enyzJlvdVmOQdgKwD5gHQw-5ojvQZunrck2nFp0SIJxdQwO-_1Hq4Mrg-18nOENgsnYm8s135t04HuDp8mOyjWcXz0dT8UEZsZcxRx1AMF2TUgG3a3OYfA/s1600/night_ruffle2.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="181" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhlodZdKozTXNbXpoH41p4d2enyzJlvdVmOQdgKwD5gHQw-5ojvQZunrck2nFp0SIJxdQwO-_1Hq4Mrg-18nOENgsnYm8s135t04HuDp8mOyjWcXz0dT8UEZsZcxRx1AMF2TUgG3a3OYfA/s200/night_ruffle2.JPG" width="200" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhc4DyWQ0CxTUEe8GOFtIybSrIIVsgrgjVVGDBfZxox9Ki9upzZ9OA15ZvPrMRV64-En3O_XBIfaCNGtlFiqv8LkwBmhPtsDyZwAMjrujAhWlzud6ZzM9W-lO4m3bBbfsuaSHcPVb6xfEQ/s1600/Ruffles_on_Loom01.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhc4DyWQ0CxTUEe8GOFtIybSrIIVsgrgjVVGDBfZxox9Ki9upzZ9OA15ZvPrMRV64-En3O_XBIfaCNGtlFiqv8LkwBmhPtsDyZwAMjrujAhWlzud6ZzM9W-lO4m3bBbfsuaSHcPVb6xfEQ/s320/Ruffles_on_Loom01.JPG" width="320" /></a> </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhlodZdKozTXNbXpoH41p4d2enyzJlvdVmOQdgKwD5gHQw-5ojvQZunrck2nFp0SIJxdQwO-_1Hq4Mrg-18nOENgsnYm8s135t04HuDp8mOyjWcXz0dT8UEZsZcxRx1AMF2TUgG3a3OYfA/s1600/night_ruffle2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><br />
</a></div><div style="text-align: center;">First grab your end pieces. I'm using ends that have 8 pegs. I've added loops to only 7 of the pegs. Have the wrong side of the pegs facing you. Turn under about 2" of the yarn and place on a few pegs, then place loops on the other pegs and again on the first few. What you are doing is hiding the raw edge inside the ruffles to start. Add loops so that your working yarn is to the left.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh-P49lx5nJZ3FI_oFkZgz2EDU-BeWkVpMM0YbfirhgS8UPz1kQqCHoSqfyApmgXVpTnXRSxIL88i1fRFrtKsh_ImmsUYd-t54iiM71u9pRK-ICAJ4KIYlo4tjYOolv_ontwY6YeocVM9Y/s1600/Ruffles_on_Loom05.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh-P49lx5nJZ3FI_oFkZgz2EDU-BeWkVpMM0YbfirhgS8UPz1kQqCHoSqfyApmgXVpTnXRSxIL88i1fRFrtKsh_ImmsUYd-t54iiM71u9pRK-ICAJ4KIYlo4tjYOolv_ontwY6YeocVM9Y/s320/Ruffles_on_Loom05.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;">Now, stretch out the yarn and take every other loop along the top edge of the yarn and place on the pegs going from left to right. (the top of the yarns edge will have loops and the bottom edge will have a finished edge)</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />

Now you have 2 loops on each peg. One from the cast on row and one that you just put on. Remember that on a few pegs you'll have 3 loops from turning under that first 2 inches.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />

</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">Now tilt the end piece forward slightly and using your pick tool, knit off the bottom loop up and over the second loop and off the top of the peg. This is called knitting off.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgz4SyvX9lOBw0hPCFyuXVrkSPxxltAcIMlFEoJYjidjVbGxIsWOZDZfbCKM5UUxFegU77-pRkhPHMOQ1FUSHmzVyFpmwRxCbeU2x1x6jF053ATuFeQxtjqdAU0VYFcImpwE8wjSVM_cXI/s1600/Ruffles_on_Loom09.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgz4SyvX9lOBw0hPCFyuXVrkSPxxltAcIMlFEoJYjidjVbGxIsWOZDZfbCKM5UUxFegU77-pRkhPHMOQ1FUSHmzVyFpmwRxCbeU2x1x6jF053ATuFeQxtjqdAU0VYFcImpwE8wjSVM_cXI/s320/Ruffles_on_Loom09.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">After all loops are knitted off....</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj9tAT39_7w-r3mN3oYk4Fp9kh-8a7pNVavEeJNtGHS-XXNvUHTlgw6geXj2tlSZIB4py5P8ysTjHiibCJ14RakMW8sMjMtF-I2FShyphenhyphenOuY2Waxhv_P8PTDmgGA4hKy_ZaiUAUNIEDJoM4g/s1600/Ruffles_on_Loom10.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj9tAT39_7w-r3mN3oYk4Fp9kh-8a7pNVavEeJNtGHS-XXNvUHTlgw6geXj2tlSZIB4py5P8ysTjHiibCJ14RakMW8sMjMtF-I2FShyphenhyphenOuY2Waxhv_P8PTDmgGA4hKy_ZaiUAUNIEDJoM4g/s320/Ruffles_on_Loom10.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">Tilt the end piece up and giving the bottom of the yarn a tug it should now look like this. Once you have knitted more rows you'll no longer have to tug as the weight of the scarf will do it for you.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhMbvOpT9pi46oW7j9RQG83QXPve3r_COY5FV3vXWEc9qW_pWWM0yuRM-VHO9ceiOK2VaDLjrbeHc5Jr6ONkY-Jxt0DNySpVIQjknVNoLCPD16icEGPwQA7jmDVhtstzfNQEfASMY07R9I/s1600/Ruffles_on_Loom11.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhMbvOpT9pi46oW7j9RQG83QXPve3r_COY5FV3vXWEc9qW_pWWM0yuRM-VHO9ceiOK2VaDLjrbeHc5Jr6ONkY-Jxt0DNySpVIQjknVNoLCPD16icEGPwQA7jmDVhtstzfNQEfASMY07R9I/s320/Ruffles_on_Loom11.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;">Now you have to transfer these loops to the other end piece. If you didn't do this your scarf would only have ruffles on one side. You are essentially knitting around and around in a circle. Adding a ruffle to the front and then to the back of the scarf.</div><div style="text-align: center;">To get the loops to the other end piece, slide the other end piece up between the pegs where the loops are. Then transfer them one at a time to the right peg beside by lifting up and over from the back of the new end pieces pegs. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">Once all loops have been transferred they will look like this.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6dkgUm3UlkKOWz_VUg5H1lmf4e3OWDQhLBXoy889x1RF-3LCdq9WDSXIxSPkCDzv3JbdtVwq0IkjpGndSGuU3vNtO9teBZ1J6VHmEe9Sl-We4A5hM8autOELU1k3ZX60fz-bD4OL4RwY/s1600/Ruffles_on_Loom12.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6dkgUm3UlkKOWz_VUg5H1lmf4e3OWDQhLBXoy889x1RF-3LCdq9WDSXIxSPkCDzv3JbdtVwq0IkjpGndSGuU3vNtO9teBZ1J6VHmEe9Sl-We4A5hM8autOELU1k3ZX60fz-bD4OL4RwY/s320/Ruffles_on_Loom12.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">Next, just slide the first end piece out from behind and your loops will now be placed on the second end piece all ready to knit the next row. Your working yarn will always be to the left of the pegs.</div><div style="text-align: center;">Just keep repeating this method to knit your scarf as long as you want.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">OPTIONAL TRANSFER METHOD </div><div style="text-align: center;">Now if you are really brave, this is an easier and faster way to transfer your loops!</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjpPgtv5_NWI2S1d8RupHxmP5s8Wbh_w8EXtA_Lsc-GiHP4EFe24R9yYKs1H0c_B01xDGIdPvgbWv7vFjDyiNDg09QnJRXqNWwBs3dv7FLE0iSjYomPOfAGL-VbzMC0w0faqs-BOdF3Ops/s1600/Ruffles_on_Loom02.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjpPgtv5_NWI2S1d8RupHxmP5s8Wbh_w8EXtA_Lsc-GiHP4EFe24R9yYKs1H0c_B01xDGIdPvgbWv7vFjDyiNDg09QnJRXqNWwBs3dv7FLE0iSjYomPOfAGL-VbzMC0w0faqs-BOdF3Ops/s320/Ruffles_on_Loom02.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">Take your second end piece and position your empty pegs under the looped pegs. I sort of wiggle the empty pegs back and forth a bit to make sure they are in the loops. Now, here is the scary part...</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3jT-Fbs4E4SmKaDFGfuveMBjuImcG2txC9gKuuDkQnmU4_2NlnxFbS07qF2mQhVVLWMVe0bzQfr-njaixLxrMHzhifSFhBVW5ds_92bMBvQ_0YXYyiXyWhT_ihSCG78qYxnVJkhY1GDo/s1600/Ruffles_on_Loom03.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3jT-Fbs4E4SmKaDFGfuveMBjuImcG2txC9gKuuDkQnmU4_2NlnxFbS07qF2mQhVVLWMVe0bzQfr-njaixLxrMHzhifSFhBVW5ds_92bMBvQ_0YXYyiXyWhT_ihSCG78qYxnVJkhY1GDo/s320/Ruffles_on_Loom03.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">In one fluid motion tilt the end piece with the loops up so that the loops fall onto the empty end piece. Be sure that the pegs that are empty keep touching the other end piece the whole time!</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhaUhhXkCqf5XYxsHCyq6PRnt_n4DqbjqmIt2yA2aKnNH2RkBhCVsZkfd-DReN2siaHnc0prekww_-Xa1ouKQvOTnJHrvoZWzYurdxou6s3iHVTw6KoRRMO7A1r8tASH8ADzcppXZcTDLg/s1600/Ruffles_on_Loom04.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhaUhhXkCqf5XYxsHCyq6PRnt_n4DqbjqmIt2yA2aKnNH2RkBhCVsZkfd-DReN2siaHnc0prekww_-Xa1ouKQvOTnJHrvoZWzYurdxou6s3iHVTw6KoRRMO7A1r8tASH8ADzcppXZcTDLg/s320/Ruffles_on_Loom04.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">This is so much easier than it sounds and is much faster than transferring the loops one at a time! But, if you are faint of heart or just a scaredy cat, then by all means transfer your loops the way I explain above. Your scarf doesn't care! LOL</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">I hope you'll give this method a go, as I am sure you'll find that it is much faster than using the knitting board and less stressful. It is also easier on the hands than using knitting needles. What ever way you decide, I hope I've encouraged you to try one of theses scarves. The hardest part will be finding the yarn!</div><img src="http://hotimg23.fotki.com/a/98_24/95_71/jabbergreenconnie-vi.gif" /><span style="font-family: Cheri;"><span style="color: red; font-size: x-large;">"</span> Have a blessed day!<span style="color: red; font-size: x-large;">"</span></span></div>Conniehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10031972837549512572noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3640023556703628507.post-27972295560686224652011-12-02T15:35:00.001-05:002012-05-15T11:54:09.959-04:00Ruffled Scarves using Netted Yarn<div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
It's been awhile since I've posted here on my blog. I tend to put my projects on Ravelry and then completely forget to blog about them. I've been busy recently knitting some Christmas gifts. After the first of the year I'll blog about what I made and show some photos.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEisSOmhvCZogSATDTh3GlgjjWyeB8tOe1FzyWnf16oHfVsTgRz6NTG-gIQqwvkk0i3b0L57IxBRni9RBz-lkw59Omp4ygiUYk35HCKPHtv_TvHgLFaZkrk0UJKvaxjL0AsUSZ9SI6y_dGE/s1600/night_ruffle3.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="158" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEisSOmhvCZogSATDTh3GlgjjWyeB8tOe1FzyWnf16oHfVsTgRz6NTG-gIQqwvkk0i3b0L57IxBRni9RBz-lkw59Omp4ygiUYk35HCKPHtv_TvHgLFaZkrk0UJKvaxjL0AsUSZ9SI6y_dGE/s200/night_ruffle3.JPG" width="200" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I recently saw <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n8PCnCIXL8E" target="_blank">this video</a> from Isela showing a ruffled scarf she had made using a knitting board. I thought it was beautiful and had never seen or heard of this net type of yarn. She used Katia Triana which usually sells for about $12 per skein. The first thing I did was scour the internet searching for these types of yarns. These are the brands I found and the prices they usually sell for.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /> </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Sundance Frill - $4<br />
Premier Starbella - $6<br />
Red Heart Sashay - $7<br />
Hobby Lobby Chrysalis - $7<br />
Bernat Twist and Twirl - $7<br />
Patons Pirouette - $8<br />
Katia Triana - $12 <br />
Knitting Fever Flounce - $12<br />
Rozetti Marina - $12 <br />
Rozetti Marina Glitz - $17<br />
Frill Seeker - $15</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
These skeins normally have about 33 yards which doesn't sound like much, but is plenty to make a 60" or longer scarf. The Red Heart Sashay, Bernat Twist and Twirl and Patons Pirouette you may be able to find locally at Hobby Lobby, Michaels or AC Moore. Hobby Lobby has their own brand called Chrysalis. My Michaels carried none of these and Hobby Lobby said they sold out of their brand as soon as it came in. The one day I was there they only had a butt ugly green color. LOL </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Every place online that sold this type of yarn either only had awful colors left or they were back ordered and out of stock until the end of this year or February 2012!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I finally lucked up and found some on ebay!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjFtjyGOow7e9PbgShyphenhyphena7qa2eb8N0Hbwtwsljaj-4GdPN5M8Q2pUsSGTgMSnqTjj-rgWY8kakPYKRGyNf9lxfiIC11kebTXc4yrnkhg3_KIBAMrw4a4YTLGSZMIvaswxq1SqmB9f_xQdV4/s1600/ebony_ivory2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjFtjyGOow7e9PbgShyphenhyphena7qa2eb8N0Hbwtwsljaj-4GdPN5M8Q2pUsSGTgMSnqTjj-rgWY8kakPYKRGyNf9lxfiIC11kebTXc4yrnkhg3_KIBAMrw4a4YTLGSZMIvaswxq1SqmB9f_xQdV4/s200/ebony_ivory2.JPG" width="131" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
So, while waiting on my yarn to arrive I tried one with some Lion Brand Ruffles yarn that I had purchased a year or more ago and it came out nice too, although different from the net type yarns. It has since been discontinued. I mixed the white and tweed every other row as I wasn't sure I'd have enough. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
It came out 60" and used a whole skein of the white and one of the tweed.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I've been using size 10.5 DPN's to knit mine and have been CO only 6 or 7 stitches which is plenty. However, after about the 3rd scarf my left hand was very sore from the way I had to hold the needles to keep the stitches from slipping off. Which by the way is very easy to do. I crochet too but found it was just too hard to make these that way and I preferred the needles to using the knitting board as well. I just thought there had to be an easier way. Well, there is!!!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br />
I remembered my end pieces that came with my adjustable knitting board. They have 8 pegs and work wonderfully! Using them is so fast and you don't have to worry about losing your stitches or your hands hurting. So, you say why not just use the knitting board like Isela shows in the video? I did try that way, but found it too fiddly and aggravating having to keep the work pushed down in the middle of the board. Plus having to put the loops from the yarn on the back side of the pegs, transferring all loops to the other side of the board after each row and continually turning the knitting board. For me just entirely too frustrating. So, in my next post I'll try to explain using the end pieces and show lots of photos as well. For me this way is so much easier and you may find that true too.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
So, until then try to find some of this new type yarn and watch some videos on youtube showing how to use this yarn.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

They named her <a href="http://images4.ravelrycache.com/uploads/conicuts/56544373/With_grandpa___grandma_Shore_on_my_birthday_medium.jpg" linkindex="208">Arden</a>.</div><div style="text-align: center;">The sweater is called <a href="http://www.knitpicks.com/patterns/Norahs_Joyful_Sweater_Hat__D10185220.html" linkindex="209">Joyful Sweater</a> and was only $1.99 Very easy to follow. I changed mine up a bit</div><div style="text-align: center;">and then used a different pattern for the hat. The hat pattern is called <a href="http://miaandmaddie.blogspot.com/2009/02/yummy-yarn-and-freebie-baby-hat.html" linkindex="210">Varigated Hat</a> and I love the texture.</div><div style="text-align: center;">It was also easy to follow. Retangly Hat!<div><div style="text-align: center;">I have been lacking in keeping up with this blog, but that doesn't mean I haven't been super busy! I knit, crochet and scrapbook and it seems that I don't have enough time to get to all the projects that I want to complete let alone start. Anyhow, I'd been dabbling in double knit and was intrigued with how you could knit a tube on 2 straight needles with NO purling! </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">So, I finally decided to take on a REAL project and this is it! The pattern is by Catherine Hughes and is called "<a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/rectangly-hat" linkindex="100">Rectangly Hat</a>". It was a lot easier than I expected it to be and that was due in large part to the excellent way in which Catherine set up the chart. This was by far the easiest chart I have ever followed! Also, a big "Thanks" to Catherine for sharing the pattern for FREE.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg84MYnBNDH6cxUComqz0c65vNYHgnJuUbgLZBbkWqJvvX_yoUaaiwUAI6M0MpwqAw-j1EcIm6qWCWmeK2JZd6zmyESnJPwliEmvXDOixpldh-ncGhJiVbHa-frE0RcOkasGWsjWV6WZ-8/s1600/pat+and+zoe.JPG" imageanchor="1" linkindex="101" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="262" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg84MYnBNDH6cxUComqz0c65vNYHgnJuUbgLZBbkWqJvvX_yoUaaiwUAI6M0MpwqAw-j1EcIm6qWCWmeK2JZd6zmyESnJPwliEmvXDOixpldh-ncGhJiVbHa-frE0RcOkasGWsjWV6WZ-8/s320/pat+and+zoe.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"> I knit this for my son Justin as he lives in NY and this will be his second winter there. I love how 100% wool keeps the wind out and repels the rain, so he should get lots of use from this hat. My husband is modeling it here and you can see that it's really 2 hats in one as it's totally reversible.</div><div style="text-align: center;"> </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjOb0ELLghp-UHM8DTG_KvgCpD8NJVAIOA604ew7bq-WLfDl2gUFbZXoD1DSuak0gOSFGO444rljHczE-RP6r_F2__34AaD3AIJ76L7pIa5IJtYBpPUUQqvzAU0orudsazPAe4Q7mRVfd0/s1600/pat+and+hayley.JPG" imageanchor="1" linkindex="102" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="241" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjOb0ELLghp-UHM8DTG_KvgCpD8NJVAIOA604ew7bq-WLfDl2gUFbZXoD1DSuak0gOSFGO444rljHczE-RP6r_F2__34AaD3AIJ76L7pIa5IJtYBpPUUQqvzAU0orudsazPAe4Q7mRVfd0/s320/pat+and+hayley.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"> I'm already planning my next double knit hat and am going to try and chart a design myself. I had so much fun following this pattern and also the fact that it fits so perfectly that I asked Catherine if she could share where she got her blank chart for her design? She graciously shared it with me and I can't wait to get started. More on that later. Anyway, why don't you give double knitting a go? </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />

</div><div style="text-align: center;">When I went to upload my photos for this project to Flickr I was surprised that this was my first knitted FO for 2010! Are you kidding? It's June and I am just now finishing a knitting project? Wow! I have been doing some crochet and I have been busy crafting more with my Cricut these days, but I didn't realize that I hadn't been knitting. </div><div style="text-align: center;">I made this for one of my husbands employees who is having a girl in August. They are giving her a baby shower mid June, so I knew I needed to knit fast. I forgot how much fun these little BSJ's (Baby Surprise Jacket) were to knit. I did add a 2x2 ribbing to the sleeves and added a crochet picot edge around the front and lower back edge, neckline and sleeves. I also used an applied i-cord bind off. Another thing I did was to knit an eyelet row and then run an i-cord through it. It turned out very nice.<br />

I crocheted this photo of my daughter Jennifer and her soon to be husband Sean. I made this as a wedding gift to the both of them and gave it to my daughter at her bridal shower this past Saturday.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">It took me 2 weeks to complete it from start to finish. It ended up being 32" by 32" and had 107 stitches per row and had 125 rows total. The pattern was 25 pages long with 3 columns of instructions on each page. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">This was a CBN (Crochet by Numbers) pattern designed by Todd Paschall. You send him a photo and he turns it into a pattern for you for a $30 donation. Here is his website...</div><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.crochetbynumbers.com/" linkindex="129">http://www.crochetbynumbers.com/</a></div><div style="text-align: center;"> He also has a group on Ravelry and you can find that here...</div><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.ravelry.com/groups/crochet-by-numbers" linkindex="130">http://www.ravelry.com/groups/crochet-by-numbers</a></div><div style="text-align: center;"> </div><div style="text-align: center;">This was my first CBN pattern and although it's a lot of work to make one of these, it is very rewarding as the result is awesome! I know that I will be making more of these.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">So if you would like to give this a try email Todd along with the photo you'd like to use </div><div style="text-align: center;">and tell him Connie sent you!</div><div><center><embed flashvars="host=picasaweb.google.com&hl=en_US&feat=flashalbum&RGB=0x000000&feed=http%3A%2F%2Fpicasaweb.google.com%2Fdata%2Ffeed%2Fapi%2Fuser%2Fconiknits%2Falbumid%2F5468147814679162209%3Falt%3Drss%26kind%3Dphoto%26hl%3Den_US" height="267" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" src="http://picasaweb.google.com/s/c/bin/slideshow.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="400"></embed><br />
