What is a Nostepinne?

I clicked through a link on Ravelry and found this Etsy store that sells handmade Nostepinne's.

I have never heard of these and thought they would be a great tool for someone who may not have room for a swift and ball winder and they are inexpensive and portable to boot. In fact you could even use a thick dowel. My first thought was the wooden dowel that holds my paper towels.

Anyway, I found out via the etsy store that the word Nostepined is Norwegian for "nest stick" as the ball formed looks like a birds nest. This little tool forms a perfect yarn "cake" and even though I have a wonderful swift and ball winder I can see myself trying this while sitting in my favorite knitting chair and wanting to fix that skein of yarn that is collapsing on itself and I don't want to get up, take it to my craft room and put up my swift just to wind it.

I looked at several videos on youtube and thought this one was the best. I love the idea that she had for the rubber-band at the top too! So, I'm off to try this on my paper towel dowel!

Just a note: I bought my wooden swift from this ebay seller and I've been very pleased with it. It is easy to use, works wonderfully, folds to store in a small space and is very inexpensive! I spent a little more for my ball winder, but it will last for years to come!

My Little Fairy

A little Fairy...

For some reason I got the urge to crochet a little fairy doll and this is what I came up with and I think she is kinda cute! You can see all of my details at the link above that will take you to my Ravelry project page for her.

My favorite thing is her wings and hair! I used jewelry wire to form the wings and then crocheted around them and inside each one. The wire is light and I can bend them how I like. I also added pipe cleaners inside of her arms and legs to make them pose-able. I added ruffles to her booty by chaining 30 and then putting 3 sc in each chain. I made 2 of these and sewed them on one above the other.

This was my first time at making hair. I crocheted a wig base first and then added the yarn to cover it where the curls weren't going to be. Great tutorial at this link...

Now, for those gorgeous curls! Well, it's so easy! You just take any 100% wool yarn and wind it around some knitting needles or wooden dowels. Dampen them with water and smoosh out the excess. Set them aside to dry completely and then just slide them off of your needles or dowels. Voila! Gorgeous curls! For the curls on my fairy it took 12 knitting needles to get enough to cover the head like I wanted it.

I just put my yarn covered knitting needles in the hood of my salon hair dryer to dry. You can use a blow dryer to speed up the process or lay them out in the sun. They dry very quickly and the curl is set permanently. You can tug them and they bounce right back in place.

Enjoy!

An Iced Coffee Sweat-R

A sweater (Sweat-R) for your Iced Coffee cup...

I’ve been making some coffee cup cozies lately and knew that there really needed to be a closed bottom one for cold coffee. You know no matter if you are in the cool air of AC in your car, coffee house, or your home that condensation drips from your cup and drips on your clothes, knitting or

book and is a constant aggravation.

Now you don’t have to use a coaster or napkin that sticks to your cup and doesn’t work anyway! Just use an Iced Coffee Sweat-R! It will soak up all of those drips and looks pretty darn cute too!

I am very pleased with how this little Iced Coffee Sweat-R turned out. I made the first one in worsted weight yarn and the second in sport weight. They both work wonderfully, but I think I prefer the worsted weight ones.

It combines my love of crochet and knitting. I crocheted the bottom up and around for an inch or so, then picked up stitches with my DPN’s to knit around, ending with an inch or so of K2, P2 rib at the top. I also added some YO’s so that I could run yarn, or crocheted chain through so that the top can fold down into the bottom.

Then just use the cord lock and pull to close tight and you have a cute little ball to throw in your purse and you can hang it on your wrist when you go in to get your Iced Coffee fix for the day!

You can pick up the cord locks in assorted colors for penny’s at Hancock Fabrics or find them online.

CeCe Winans--"I Am"

I am the one yes I created the whole universe
Greater than anything in heaven and in all the earth
It's my air you breathe so I'm the one that you should please
I am the one you need why should you be alone?

I am that I am
I'm all that you need
I can yes I can
no it ain't too hard for me
Do you know, really know, do you really believe
Every day, every night of your life
I am

It hurts my heart indeed to see those whom I love in need
Knowing all I wonder why they never call on me
If you just ask and I can satisfy you with the things
I'll give you everything, yes you can have it all
I tell the sun to rise, the wind to blow, the rain to fall
I move the mountains and the oceans rivers great and small
Yes everything I made I want to hear them give me praise
Especially you my children each and every day

Repeat chorus X4

I am...

Back at Blogger!

Yes, I have flip flopped back to blogger! I finally took the time to make a new blog at blogger and import all of my post from the old blogger Knit Knot Purl Curl. I have tried to import my wordpress post here but it doesn't seem to be working, so I will put a link in the side bar for the wordpress blog for older post.

You can always find my blog by typing www.knitknotpurlcurl.com as it will point to the right blog.
